HID Headlight Bulb: What do you need to know?

HID Headlight Bulb

HID headlights are specially designed for vehicles with high-performance lighting systems. They come in two different kinds: HID (High-Intensity Discharge) and LED (Light Emitting Diode). Both are used to increase visibility and reduce glare by using technology that produces a whiter, brighter light than standard headlight bulbs. HID lights were first developed in 1989 for use in motorcycles and high-performance cars. They’re more commonly found in luxury vehicles, such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Lexus. High-Intensity Discharge light bulbs are developed in the ’70s to be used in factory lighting. However, they are also used in automobiles. They are also used in outdoor lighting and sometimes as security lighting. In automobiles, they are used in the headlight part. High-intensity discharge lamps have a big advantage over halogen lamps: they emit a higher amount of light, which is whiter and produces less heat. HID lighting is about 1000 times brighter than halogen. It also produces a whiter light, which makes the road and the surroundings look brighter. The HID lamps have a longer lifetime than the halogen lamps. This is because of the ballast and the starter.

The dangers of using the wrong HID headlight bulb:

Your vehicle’s headlights are responsible for illuminating the road ahead and helping you avoid accidents. The last thing you want is to put the safety of your car and the people riding in it in jeopardy by using the wrong type of HID headlight bulb. One of the most common problems resulting from the wrong type of HID headlight bulb is a flickering light. This is caused when the HID headlight bulb’s ballast malfunctions.

The ballast is responsible for regulating the voltage to the HID bulb. When the voltage is off, the light flickers. This is a problem with the HID headlight bulb and not the ballast. If a ballast malfunctions, it should be replaced.  HID headlights are the safer, brighter, and more efficient option compared to halogen headlights. However, many car owners make the mistake of using the wrong HID kit, most times resulting in damaged headlights, and sometimes even worse, you could get yourself into a dangerous situation. It may sound too simple, but the right HID headlight kit and replacement bulb can make a huge difference in your driving experience.

HID headlight bulb installation and tips:

HID headlights, or xenon headlights, have been in use for about 15 years now, but are starting to get a lot of attention. They are now the most popular aftermarket upgrade for your car and are quickly becoming the standard for high-end automobiles. The typical HID (High-Intensity Discharge) headlight contains a gas, usually xenon and some other gases, in a double-walled quartz tube.

With a high-current electrical charge, the gas is ignited, which causes a bright light. The advantage of HID headlights is that they give off a whiter, brighter light that can better penetrate fog, dust, and smoke than regular incandescent bulbs. They are also easier to focus on and give off a more streamlined and thin beam. However, the high voltage needed to ignite the gas and the quartz bulb can be dangerous and expensive to repair. The average replacement cost of a xenon headlight bulb can be as high as $500.
